On My Wish List

A weekly meme hosted by Book Chick City.
What's on your wish list?

I'm so tempted to watch the HBO series--but I want to read the books beforehand, starting with the first:

Genre: Fantasy

Goodreads Blurb: Long ago, in a time forgotten, a preternatural event threw the seasons out of balance. In a land where summers can last decades and winters a lifetime, trouble is brewing. The cold is returning, and in the frozen wastes to the north of Winterfell, sinister and supernatural forces are massing beyond the kingdom’s protective Wall. At the center of the conflict lie the Starks of Winterfell, a family as harsh and unyielding as the land they were born to. Sweeping from a land of brutal cold to a distant summertime kingdom of epicurean plenty, here is a tale of lords and ladies, soldiers and sorcerers, assassins and bastards, who come together in a time of grim omens.

Here an enigmatic band of warriors bear swords of no human metal; a tribe of fierce wildlings carry men off into madness; a cruel young dragon prince barters his sister to win back his throne; and a determined woman undertakes the most treacherous of journeys. Amid plots and counter-plots, tragedy and betrayal, victory and terror, the fate of the Starks, their allies, and their enemies hangs perilously in the balance, as each endeavors to win that deadliest of conflicts: the game of thrones.

  1. You know I haven't seen teh series yet but all teh extra publicity has had me wondering of I should pick up the books! I love fantasy and politics involved sound great...think it will have to go on my wishlist as well! :)

  2. Yeah, it was the HBO series starting up that brought this book back to my attention. And, like you, I love fantasy mixed with politics (political fantasy?). Can't wait to splurge on this . . .

  3. I've been watching the series and was thinking of buying the book. I have to say the series is really good its worth watching.

    My wishlist

  4. Oooh, good to know. I'm so tempted to watch the series before I read, if only because it'll take a while before I can splurge on books again. :(

  5. It's been so long since I've read that first one. I hope you like it!

As for the other books, you could always try your library for now. ;)

  6. Oh I want to read these too! I also want to see the series, but I don't have HBO. *sigh*

  7. I read the first in the series but it wasn't my cup of tea. With things calming down, I have managed to get back to my wishlist. Come see what I'm wishing for.

  8. I haven't heard of the book but I hope you get this book soon.

  9. @CSIlibrarian--Lol, yes, I do need to make better use of my library. Especially since it has a new e-book lending programs!

@Melissa--You probably won't have to wait long to see it, even without HBO. I'll bet the series will be out on Netflix soon!

@Pussreboots--I'm sure the book isn't everyone's cup of tea. I've heard it's pretty heavy-handed with the politics, for instance. I'm looking forward to that part, but I've heard it criticized for that too.

    @Kero--Thank you! I hope so too. :)

  10. Christian Bale is bellisimo and great artist.
